Agronomic Biofortification with Se, Zn, and Fe: An Effective Strategy to Enhance Crop Nutritional Quality and Stress Defense—A Review

چکیده
Abstract Human micronutrient deficiencies are a widespread problem worldwide and mainly concern people whose diet (mainly of plant origin) consists insufficient amounts critical vitamins minerals. Low levels micronutrients in plants linked to, i.e., their decreasing concentration soils and/or low bioavailability presence abiotic stresses which disturb the proper growth development plants. Agronomic biofortification crops is very promising way to improve edible parts without compromising yield recognized as cheapest strategy alleviate hidden hunger worldwide. The review focused on factors influencing effectiveness biofortified (a type application, form, dose applied microelement, biofertilizers, nanofertilizers). Also, accumulation zinc, selenium, iron crops, effects metabolism, morphological parameters, an impact plants’ defense mechanisms against stress like salt, high/low temperature, heavy metal, drought was discussed. Finally, directions future agronomic studies proposed.

Effects of selenium biofortification on crop nutritional quality
Selenium (Se) at very low doses has crucial functions in humans and animals. Since plants represent the main dietary source of this element, Se-containing crops may be used as a means to deliver Se to consumers (biofortification). Several strategies have been exploited to increase plant Se content. Selenium assimilation in plants affects both sulfur (S) and nitrogen (N) metabolic pathways, whic...

Zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe) deficiencies are well-documented public health issue and an important soil constraint to crop production. Generally, there is a close geographical overlap between soil deficiency and human deficiency of Zn and Fe, indicating a high requirement for increasing concentrations of micronutrients in food crops. Breeding new plant genotypes for high grain concentrations of Fe a...
